“Basler Sterbe-und Alters-Kasse” is founded.
Patria Cooperative is an independent Swiss company based in Basel. It advocates for attractive life insurance products in Switzerland in the interests of its cooperative members. To this end, it has a significant involvement in the leading Swiss insurer Helvetia Baloise: Patria Cooperative is the Group’s largest shareholder and has two members on its Board of Directors.
It takes a long-term view in its role as a major shareholder, acting with care and a focus on stability. Through its representatives on the Board of Directors, Patria Cooperative assumes responsibility for the entrepreneurial initiative and sustainable growth of Helvetia Baloise – for the benefit of the cooperative members and all shareholders.
Patria Cooperative pools its sustainability initiatives within IDEA helvetia, a Swiss foundation that supports charitable projects benefiting people and nature. The cooperative’s Assembly of Delegates consists of 50 members from all parts of Switzerland; the Board of Directors manages the organisation.
With a history stretching back almost 150 years, Patria Cooperative is a long-established player in the Swiss insurance market.
“Basler Sterbe-und Alters-Kasse” is founded.
“Schweizerische Sterbe- und Alterskasse” renames itself “Patria Schweizerische Lebensversicherungsgesellschaft auf Gegenseitigkeit” and extends its activities to the whole of Switzerland.
Spin-off of the life insurance business into the newly founded “Patria Schweizerische Lebensversicherungs-Gesellschaft”, Basel, and merger with “Helvetia Swiss Insurance Company Ltd”, St. Gallen, to form “Helvetia Patria Holding AG” (“Helvetia”). Since then, Patria Cooperative has been the anchor shareholder of “Helvetia”.
As the anchor shareholder of “Helvetia”, Patria Cooperative supports its merger with “Nationale Suisse”.
As the anchor shareholder of “Helvetia”, Patria Cooperative supports its takeover of the Spanish insurer “Caser”.
Patria Cooperative, as the anchor shareholder, supports the merger of “Helvetia Holding” and “Baloise Holding”.
Patria Cooperative fulfils its social responsibility as the founder of IDEA helvetia. The Swiss foundation supports relevant projects in the areas of people and nature. Funding is directed at smaller, non-profit and private organisations that make a big difference but rarely receive the attention they deserve.
